Guide last updated September 9, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond arrival
  • Return or onward flight ticket (mandatory, checked at check-in)
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Palau Pristine Paradise Environmental Fee (PPEF) of USD 100, paid online before arrival, which also requires signing the Palau Pledge (an eco-conservation commitment stamped into your passport)
  • Sufficient funds for your stay
  • Travel/health insurance strongly recommended given limited medical facilities
  • No biometrics collected for visa-exempt entry, though a photo may be taken at immigration

Visa types

  • Visa-free tourist entry: up to 90 days, with extensions possible through the Bureau of Immigration
  • Business visa: for stays involving work or business activities, arranged with Palau's Bureau of Immigration in advance
  • Resident/work permits: required for employment, arranged through a local sponsor

Entry conditions

  • Pay the PPEF and complete the Palau Pledge online before departure (required for boarding with many airlines and checked on arrival)
  • Present your passport, PPEF receipt, and Palau Pledge confirmation at immigration in Koror
  • Maximum initial stay is up to 90 days; extensions can be requested at the Bureau of Immigration in Koror for additional fees
  • Employment or business activity is prohibited on a visa-free tourist entry
  • Environmental regulations are strictly enforced, including reef-safe sunscreen requirements

Fees & processing time

  • PPEF (environmental fee, mandatory): USD 100, paid online before travel via the official Palau Pledge/PPEF platform
  • No separate visa fee for visa-exempt tourist entry
  • Extension fee at the Bureau of Immigration: approximately USD 50 per extension period
  • No advance visa processing time required; the PPEF payment is processed instantly online

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Pay the PPEF and complete the Palau Pledge at least a few days before departure — you'll need the confirmation to check in for your flight
  • Given the remote location, book flights via Guam, Manila, or Taipei and allow buffer time for connections
  • Bring reef-safe sunscreen, as chemical sunscreens are banned in Palau to protect coral reefs
  • Travel insurance with medical evacuation coverage is strongly advised given limited hospital facilities
  • Respect marine protected areas and diving regulations, which are actively enforced with fines
