  • No biometrics beyond standard border checks (Norway participates in Schengen though not an EU member)
  • European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) covers necessary state healthcare during your stay

  • Not applicable - there is no visa category for EEA citizens travelling under the EEA Agreement and Schengen rules; this is a freedom-of-movement route.

Entry conditions

  • As an EEA citizen you may enter, live, and work in Norway without a visa or residence permit, for short or long stays. If staying longer than 3 months for work or study, register with the police or the national population register (Folkeregisteret) and obtain a registration certificate - an administrative formality, not an immigration barrier. No time limit applies to your stay.

  • No visa fee and no processing time - entry is immediate at the border. The 3-month registration certificate, if needed, is free and typically processed within a few weeks of application.

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Use the EU/EEA e-gates at Oslo Gardermoen and other major airports
  • If relocating for work, register with the police/Folkeregisteret within 3 months to get your Norwegian ID number (fødselsnummer/D-number), needed for banking, payroll, and healthcare
  • Norway uses the Norwegian krone (NOK), not the euro, despite being in Schengen
  • Carry your EHIC for medical needs
