Visa on Arrival

German citizens can get a Nepal Tourist Visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu or major land borders - USD 30 for 15 days, USD 50 for 30 days, or USD 125 for 90 days, payable in cash or by card.

What you need

  • Passport valid at least 6 months beyond arrival with one blank page
  • One passport photo (or use the kiosk's digital photo capture)
  • Completed arrival visa form (available online in advance or on arrival)
  • Proof of onward/return ticket may be requested
  • Proof of sufficient funds (around USD 20-50/day is the informal guideline, rarely enforced strictly)
  • Fingerprint and photo captured at the immigration counter
  • Travel health insurance strongly recommended, especially for trekking, and should cover high-altitude evacuation

Visa types

  • Tourist visa - 15 days (USD 30), 30 days (USD 50), or 90 days (USD 125), multiple entry
  • Business visa - for commercial purposes, requires an invitation letter arranged in advance, not available on arrival
  • Trekking permits (TIMS card, ACAP, Sagarmatha National Park permits) are separate from the visa and bought in Kathmandu or at trailheads

Visa on arrival

  • Available at Tribhuvan International Airport (Kathmandu) and at major land crossings with India such as Kakarbhitta, Birgunj, and Nepalgunj. At the airport, use the automated kiosk to fill the form and capture your photo, or complete the paper form, then pay at the bank counter (cash in major currencies or card) before proceeding to the immigration desk. Expect 30-60 minute queues during peak season (Oct-Nov, Mar-Apr).

  • Payable in USD, EUR, or other major currencies cash, or by card at the airport bank counter (bring exact USD to avoid poor exchange rates)

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Pre-fill the online arrival form via the Nepal Immigration portal to speed up the airport queue
  • Book the 30- or 90-day visa upfront if trekking for several weeks - extending inside Nepal at the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu costs an extra USD 3/day plus a USD 5 late fee if overstayed
  • Carry your trekking permits separately from your passport
  • Confirm current land-border e-visa availability before relying on it, as rules change by crossing
