German passport holders can visit Mexico visa-free for up to 180 days for tourism or business, receiving an FMM tourist card on arrival.

What you need

  • Passport valid for the duration of stay (6 months validity recommended)
  • Forma Migratoria Multiple (FMM) tourist card - completed online at inm.gob.mx or on arrival
  • Proof of return/onward travel
  • Proof of sufficient funds if requested (rarely checked for EU citizens)
  • No photo required
  • Biometrics: fingerprints and photo taken at the port of entry
  • Travel health insurance: not required but recommended

Visa types

  • FMM Tourist/Business card - free, up to 180 days, single entry per card, multiple entries require a new FMM each time
  • Temporary Resident Visa - for stays over 180 days or work/study, apply at a Mexican consulate in Germany, fee approx EUR 44, validity up to 4 years
  • Permanent Resident Visa - for retirees/long-term settlers, apply at consulate, fee approx EUR 44

Entry conditions

  • Up to 180 days visa-free per entry for tourism or business (no paid work)
  • Must complete the FMM online before or upon arrival and keep the stamped copy until departure
  • Losing the FMM incurs a replacement fee (approx MXN 500) at the airport immigration office
  • Extension beyond 180 days is not normally possible without changing status; must exit and re-enter

  • FMM tourist card: free online, or MXN 687 (approx USD 40) if paid at land border crossings
  • No visa fee for visa-free entry
  • Temporary Resident Visa at consulate: approx EUR 44, processing 5-10 working days
  • Airport immigration processing: typically under 30 minutes

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Complete the FMM online in advance to skip the paper form line at the airport
  • Common rejection reason: entering without proof of onward travel when questioned by immigration
  • Keep the FMM stamped slip safe - it is required to exit the country
  • For stays beyond 180 days, apply for a Temporary Resident Visa at the Mexican consulate in Berlin, Frankfurt, or Munich before travel
  • No current bilateral travel restrictions between Germany and Mexico
