Guide last updated September 9, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for the full duration of stay (airlines often ask for at least 6 months validity to be safe)
  • No visa application form needed for stays up to 90 days
  • Proof of onward/return ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or address of host)
  • Sufficient funds for the stay (be ready to show a bank statement or credit card if asked)
  • Passport-size photo not required for entry
  • Biometrics: fingerprints and photo taken on arrival at Mauritius airport
  • Travel health insurance: not mandatory but strongly recommended given costly private healthcare

Visa types

  • Tourist entry stamp (free) - granted on arrival, valid up to 90 days, multiple entries allowed with new stamps
  • Premium Visa (stays 90 days to 1 year) - for remote workers/retirees, apply online via the Economic Development Board Mauritius, free, renewable
  • Business visa - for trips beyond casual meetings, apply via the Passport and Immigration Office, fee MUR 1,300 (approx USD 30), processing 5-7 working days

Entry conditions

  • Germans get an automatic 90-day visa-free entry stamp for tourism
  • No work permitted under visa-free entry
  • Must show return/onward ticket and proof of accommodation at immigration
  • Extensions of up to a further 90 days (max 180 days per year) possible at the Passport and Immigration Office in Port Louis, fee MUR 1,300

Fees & processing time

  • Visa-free entry: no fee
  • Premium Visa: free, processed online in 2-3 working days
  • Extension fee: MUR 1,300 (approx USD 30) for up to 90 additional days
  • Standard immigration processing at the airport: a few minutes per traveler

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Apply for the Premium Visa online at least 2 weeks before departure if planning a stay over 90 days
  • Common rejection reason for extensions: lack of proof of funds or return ticket
  • Always carry a printed hotel booking confirmation and return flight ticket for airport checks
  • Extensions must be requested before the initial 90 days expire, at the Immigration Office in Port Louis
  • No current bilateral travel advisories affecting German nationals visiting Mauritius
