German citizens need a Tourist or Business visa for Mali, obtained in advance from a Malian embassy or consulate; fee approx. €73, processing 3-5 working days, and proof of yellow fever vaccination is mandatory for entry.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date, with at least 2 blank visa pages
  • Completed Malian visa application form
  • One recent passport-size photo (35x45mm, white background)
  • Proof of yellow fever vaccination (International Certificate of Vaccination) - mandatory for all travelers to Mali
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter)
  • Return or onward flight ticket
  • Proof of sufficient funds (bank statement, last 3 months)
  • Travel health insurance covering Mali is strongly recommended
  • Biometrics are not required for the visa sticker but fingerprints may be collected on arrival at Bamako-Senou International Airport

Visa types

  • Tourist visa: single entry, valid 90 days from issue, maximum stay 30 days, fee approx. €73
  • Business visa: single or multiple entry, valid up to 90 days, maximum stay 30-90 days depending on entry type, fee approx. €110
  • Transit visa: valid 7 days, for travelers continuing to a third country, fee approx. €40

How to apply

  • Locate the nearest Malian embassy or honorary consulate; applicants based in Germany are often routed through Mali's diplomatic mission in Brussels or Paris, as Mali has limited direct consular presence in Germany
  • Submit the application form, passport, photo, yellow fever certificate, and supporting documents in person or by courier
  • Pay the visa fee in cash, by bank transfer, or card where accepted (fees are usually quoted in CFA francs or euros)
  • Standard processing takes 3-5 working days; some missions offer a 24-hour express service for an extra fee
  • No interview is normally required for straightforward tourist applications
  • The visa is affixed as a sticker in the passport, collected in person or returned by registered mail

Tips for Germany travelers
