Guide last updated September 9, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 1 month beyond the intended stay (longer validity recommended)
  • No visa application form needed - visa on arrival is automatic on meeting entry conditions
  • Confirmed onward or return ticket
  • Confirmed accommodation booking (resort, hotel, or guesthouse) or proof of sufficient funds (approx. USD 100/day plus USD 25/day per accompanying person)
  • No photo required

Visa types

  • Tourist visa on arrival: free, 30 days, single entry, granted automatically to eligible nationalities including Germany
  • Extended tourist visa: available for a further 60 days (90 days total) if applied for before the initial visa expires
  • Business visa: requires a local sponsor's invitation, arranged in advance through Maldives Immigration

Visa on arrival

  • Granted automatically at Velana International Airport (Male) and other entry points on presentation of passport, onward ticket, and accommodation proof
  • Complete the mandatory online IMUGA traveler declaration (health, customs, immigration) within 96 hours before arrival
  • No fee for the standard 30-day tourist visa on arrival
  • Processing at the airport counter is typically a few minutes given automatic eligibility

Fees & processing time

  • 30-day tourist visa on arrival: no fee
  • IMUGA online declaration: free, completed in advance
  • Extension to 90 days total: fee approx. USD 50-100, applied for online or at the Immigration office in Male
  • Standard processing: immediate on arrival; extension requests take 1-3 working days

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Complete the IMUGA traveler declaration online before flying - boarding can be denied without it
  • Carry a printed or digital confirmation of your resort/hotel booking, since walk-in accommodation is not accepted as proof
  • Budget for the mandatory Green Tax charged per night at resorts, separate from the visa
  • Extend the visa online well before day 30 if planning to stay longer, since overstaying incurs daily fines
