Visa Free

German citizens can enter Malaysia visa-free for stays of up to 90 days for tourism or business, with no advance visa application required.

Guide last updated September 9, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry
  • No visa application needed for stays up to 90 days
  • Proof of onward/return travel
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Sufficient funds for the stay
  • No photo required for visa-free entry
  • Biometrics: fingerprints and facial photo captured at the immigration counter on arrival
  • Travel health insurance: recommended

Visa types

  • Visa-free entry: tourism/business/social visits, up to 90 days, single or multiple entry, no fee
  • Employment Pass/work visa: required separately for employment, arranged by a Malaysian employer before arrival
  • Student Pass: required separately for study exceeding the visa-free period, applied for via the Malaysian institution and Immigration Department

Entry conditions

  • Up to 90 days visa-free per visit for tourism, social, or business purposes (no direct employment)
  • Present passport and completed Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC), submitted online within 3 days before arrival
  • Proof of onward travel and accommodation may be requested at the counter
  • Extensions beyond 90 days are limited; a new entry after departure is the usual route for continued visa-free stays

Fees & processing time

  • Visa-free entry: no fee
  • Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC): free, submitted online in advance via windowmalaysia.my/evisa
  • No processing time beyond MDAC submission - entry is granted on arrival
  • If an Employment Pass or Student Pass is later needed: fees and processing (typically 2-4 weeks) are set by the Immigration Department and vary by pass category

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) online within 3 days of arrival - it is mandatory even for visa-free entry
  • Keep hotel booking confirmations accessible on your phone, as immigration officers occasionally request them
  • No common rejection issues since entry is visa-free; the main risk is an incomplete or missing MDAC submission
  • For longer stays or business assignments, arrange the relevant pass through a Malaysian sponsor well before the 90-day period lapses
