German citizens can obtain a free visa on arrival for stays up to 30 days at Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport and land borders, extendable once for a further 30 days at Beirut's General Security office.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from date of entry, with at least one blank page
  • Visa on arrival form (provided at the airport or border)
  • No photo required for the on-arrival stamp
  • Return or onward ticket may be requested
  • Proof of accommodation recommended though rarely checked
  • No biometrics collected on arrival (collected only if applying for an extension)
  • Travel health insurance recommended, not mandatory
  • Travelers with an Israeli stamp or evidence of travel to Israel in their passport may be denied entry

Visa types

  • Visa on arrival (Tourist): single entry, 30 days, free of charge for German citizens
  • Extension: one additional 30-day extension available from General Security (Surete Generale) in Beirut, typically free or a nominal fee
  • Business visa: can be arranged in advance through the Lebanese embassy with a company invitation letter, single entry, 30 days, fee around USD 30-50

Visa on arrival

  • Available at Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport and official land border crossings
  • Steps: present passport at the visa counter before immigration, complete the arrival card, receive a 30-day entry stamp
  • Fee: free for German nationals, one of a limited list of nationalities exempt from the on-arrival fee
  • Processing is immediate, typically under 10 minutes
  • Queue tip: have accommodation address and return flight details ready in case requested

  • Extension at General Security: typically free or a nominal administrative fee (around USD 0-20)
  • No VFS/BLS service required

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Double-check your passport has no Israeli entry/exit stamps, as this can result in refusal of entry
  • Apply for the extension at least a few days before your 30-day stamp expires, at the General Security headquarters in Beirut (Furn el Chebbak)
  • Check current German Foreign Office travel advisories before departure, as security conditions in parts of Lebanon can change quickly
  • Carry small USD or EUR cash for any incidental administrative fees
  • Direct flights connect Frankfurt and Munich to Beirut
