Guide last updated September 9, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry
  • A recent passport-style photo (for the physical arrival visa; not always required for the e-visa)
  • Confirmed return or onward flight ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking)
  • Sufficient funds for the stay
  • No biometrics beyond the standard photo/fingerprint check at Kuwait International Airport immigration
  • Travel health insurance is often required or bundled into the visa cost, so budget for it

Visa types

  • Visa on arrival (Tourist) — issued at the airport for eligible nationalities including Germany, fee around KWD 3, valid for a stay of up to 90 days
  • e-Visa (pre-arrival) — same validity and stay length, applied for online at evisa.moi.gov.kw before travel to skip the arrival counter
  • Business visa — requires a local sponsor/company invitation, arranged in advance through the Kuwaiti Embassy in Berlin or a local sponsor

Visa on arrival

  • Available for eligible travelers, including German citizens, at Kuwait International Airport's dedicated visa-on-arrival counters
  • Present your passport, pay the fee (about KWD 3, roughly USD 10), and receive the visa stamp before proceeding to passport control
  • Payment is accepted in Kuwaiti Dinar and often by card at the counter
  • Processing at the counter typically takes only a few minutes per traveler, though queues can build at peak arrival times
  • Pre-applying online via the e-visa portal avoids the arrival queue entirely and is recommended for a smoother arrival

Fees & processing time

  • Visa fee: approximately KWD 3 (about USD 10), whether obtained on arrival or online in advance
  • No significant additional service fee when applying directly through the official channels
  • Total cost: roughly USD 10–15 including any card processing charge
  • Standard processing: a few minutes at the airport counter, or same-day to a few hours for the online e-visa
  • No separate express option needed given the already fast processing

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Apply for the e-visa online before departure to skip the arrival visa counter and speed up immigration
  • Carry a printed or digital copy of your hotel booking, as it can be requested at immigration
  • Kuwait enforces strict customs and conduct rules (e.g. around alcohol) — review these before travel to avoid issues
  • Extensions beyond 90 days require an application at the General Directorate of Residency Affairs before the visa expires
