Egypt Visa for Germany Citizens 2026

Visa on Arrival

German citizens can get an Egypt visa on arrival at major airports for USD 25, or apply in advance through the e-Visa portal for the same fee with approval usually within a few days.

Guide last updated October 12, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date
  • One passport-style photo (for the VOA sticker; not needed for the e-Visa)
  • Return or onward ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking)
  • Proof of sufficient funds, occasionally requested
  • Biometrics: a photo is taken at passport control; fingerprints are not routinely collected from EU travelers
  • Travel health insurance is recommended, particularly for Red Sea resort areas

Visa types

  • Tourist visa on arrival: single entry, valid 30 days, fee USD 25
  • Tourist e-Visa: single entry, valid 30 days, fee USD 25, or multiple entry valid 90 days, fee USD 60
  • Business visa: arranged in advance through an Egyptian consulate, requires a company invitation letter
  • Sinai-only stamp: free entry permit for stays limited to Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba, and Taba for up to 15 days, issued at the border

Visa on arrival

  • Available at Cairo, Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh, Luxor, and other international airports
  • Buy the visa stamp at the bank kiosk before passport control, pay in USD or EUR cash, then proceed to immigration
  • Fee: USD 25 for a single-entry 30-day tourist visa
  • Queues can be short to moderate depending on flight schedules; have exact cash ready
  • Many travelers now prefer the e-Visa (visa2egypt.gov.eg) to skip the on-arrival payment counter entirely

Fees & processing time

  • Visa on arrival fee: USD 25, payable in cash (USD, EUR, or GBP accepted)
  • E-Visa fee: USD 25 (single entry) or USD 60 (multiple entry), paid online by card
  • No additional service agency fee for either route
  • E-Visa standard processing time: typically 3-7 business days, though approvals can arrive sooner
  • No official express e-Visa option; apply early to avoid delays

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Apply for the e-Visa at least a week before travel if you want certainty before departure, since the VOA counter can occasionally run out of change
  • The free Sinai-only stamp is a good option if your trip is limited to Red Sea resorts, saving the USD 25 fee
  • Common rejection reason for e-Visa applications: an unclear passport photo scan or applying with less than 6 months of passport validity
  • Keep your visa receipt or e-Visa printout until departure, as it may be checked on exit
  • Extensions beyond 30 days can be arranged at the Mogamma government building in Cairo or other provincial passport offices
