Dr Congo Visa for Germany Citizens 2026

e-Visa / eTA

German citizens need an e-Visa for the Democratic Republic of Congo, applied for online before travel and typically issued for a single entry with a stay of up to 30 days.

Guide last updated September 8, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the intended stay, with at least 2 blank pages
  • Approved e-Visa printout or digital copy, obtained before departure
  • Digital passport-style photo uploaded during the online application
  • Proof of yellow fever vaccination - mandatory and checked both when applying and on arrival
  • Return or onward flight ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host invitation)
  • Travel health insurance is strongly recommended, though not always formally required
  • Biometric fingerprints and photo are collected on arrival at Kinshasa's N'djili Airport

Visa types

  • Tourist e-Visa - single entry, validity typically 90 days from issue, allowing a stay of up to 30 days per visit (confirm the exact stay length at the time of application, as rules are updated periodically)
  • Business e-Visa - similar process but requires an invitation letter from a DRC-based company or partner
  • Ordinary Visa (embassy) - still available for those preferring to apply in person at the Congolese embassy in Berlin
  • Most individual travelers now use the e-Visa system rather than the embassy route.

How to apply online

  • Apply via the official DRC e-Visa portal before travel
  • Steps: create an account, complete the application form with passport and trip details, upload your photo, passport bio page, yellow fever certificate, and accommodation proof, then pay online by card
  • Processing time is typically 3-7 working days, though it can take longer during peak periods
  • Approval is sent by email as a PDF to print and present, along with the original passport, on arrival
  • Some applicants use accredited visa agencies in Germany to assist with the online process for an added service fee

Fees & processing time

  • e-Visa fee: approximately USD 100-130 for a standard single-entry tourist e-Visa
  • Optional agency service fee, if used: an additional EUR 20-40
  • Standard processing time: 3-7 working days; expedited processing may be available for an extra fee through some channels
  • Total cost for a standard application: roughly EUR 100-160 including any service fee

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Apply at least 2-3 weeks before departure to allow for processing delays and possible requests for additional documents
  • Common rejection reasons: expired or missing yellow fever certificate, low-resolution photo uploads, and mismatched passport data
  • Print multiple copies of your approved e-Visa and yellow fever certificate, since both are checked at several points including hotel check-in
  • Given the security situation in parts of eastern DRC, check current travel advisories and confine travel to Kinshasa or other stable regions unless you have specific local arrangements
  • Extensions beyond the initial visa validity should be handled at the Direction Générale de Migration in Kinshasa before expiry
