Cuba Visa for Germany Citizens 2026

German citizens need a Cuban Tourist Card (Tarjeta de Turista), which functions as an entry visa and can be purchased online or through a travel agency before departure, valid for a single stay of up to 30 days.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry
  • Cuban Tourist Card (Tarjeta de Turista) purchased in advance - the mandatory entry document functioning as a visa
  • Proof of travel health insurance covering the full stay in Cuba - mandatory and checked on arrival or when purchasing the tourist card
  • Return or onward flight ticket
  • Completed D'Viajeros digital customs and immigration form, submitted online up to 7 days before travel
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or Casa Particular address)
  • No biometric enrollment beyond a photo at the immigration counter

Visa types

  • Tourist Card (Tarjeta de Turista) - the standard entry document for tourism, valid for a single stay of up to 30 days, extendable once for another 30 days from within Cuba
  • Business Visa - for commercial activity, arranged through the Cuban embassy in Berlin with an invitation letter
  • Journalist/Official Visa - for accredited press or official delegations
  • Germans travelling for leisure use the Tourist Card; other categories require a full visa application at the embassy.

How to apply online

  • The Tourist Card can be bought online via the Cuban consulate's authorized portal, through many airlines flying to Cuba, or via specialized travel agencies
  • Steps: complete the online application with passport and travel details, pay the fee by card, receive and print the tourist card (or present it digitally, depending on the issuer)
  • Separately, complete the D'Viajeros online form within 7 days of arrival for customs and health declarations
  • Processing time for the tourist card is usually immediate to 1-3 working days when bought online; airline-issued cards are sometimes provided at check-in
  • On arrival, present the printed/digital tourist card, passport, insurance proof, and D'Viajeros QR code at immigration

Fees & processing time

  • Tourist Card fee: approximately EUR 20-25 when purchased through the consulate or an authorized agency (prices vary by seller)
  • Travel health insurance: often bundled into flight costs from Germany, or purchased separately for around EUR 15-30 depending on trip length
  • Extension of the tourist card for another 30 days: paid locally in Cuba, roughly EUR 25-30 equivalent at an immigration office
  • Standard processing time: 1-3 working days online; immediate if issued by the airline
  • Total cost for a standard trip: roughly EUR 35-55 including insurance and the tourist card

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Buy your Tourist Card and insurance well before departure - some German airports require proof of both at check-in
  • Keep both a digital and printed copy of the Tourist Card and D'Viajeros confirmation
  • Common issues: forgetting to complete the D'Viajeros form, or buying insurance that doesn't clearly show Cuba coverage - carry the policy document with you
  • If you want to extend your stay, do so at an immigration office in Cuba before the initial 30 days expire, not after
  • Cards issued by German banks affiliated with certain US institutions may not work in Cuba - carry sufficient cash
