Guide last updated September 8, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond arrival
  • Return or onward flight ticket
  • Cash (Euros or Comorian Francs) to pay the visa-on-arrival fee at the airport counter
  • A completed arrival form, handed out on the plane or at the immigration desk
  • No pre-approval, invitation letter, or online application needed
  • No mandatory travel health insurance, though recommended given limited local medical facilities
  • No biometric enrollment required beyond a photo taken at the visa desk
  • Proof of accommodation is not usually checked but useful to have

Visa types

  • Nearly all nationalities, including Germans, use the same on-arrival visa for both tourism and short business trips:
  • Tourist/Business visa on arrival - single entry, valid up to 45 days, issued at the airport
  • For stays beyond 45 days, employment, or residence, a visa must instead be arranged in advance through the Comorian mission accredited to Germany (typically via Paris or Brussels, as Comoros has no embassy in Berlin) before travel.

Visa on arrival

  • Available at Moroni Prince Said Ibrahim International Airport, the country's main entry point
  • Steps: disembark, complete the arrival form, proceed to the visa counter before passport control, pay the fee in cash, receive the visa stamp, then continue to passport control
  • Fee is payable in Euros or Comorian Francs (KMF); USD is generally not accepted
  • Officers may ask for the return ticket and accommodation details before stamping
  • Queues can be slow when several flights land together in the evening, so keep exact change ready

Fees & processing time

  • Visa on arrival fee: approximately EUR 30-60 depending on entry point (confirm the current rate with your airline or the Comorian consulate before travel)
  • No separate service fee since there is no VFS/BLS involvement
  • Processing time: a few minutes per traveler at the airport counter
  • Total cost for a standard visit: roughly EUR 30-60

Tips for Germany travelers

  • Carry small-denomination Euro notes, since the visa desk may not always have change for large bills
  • Confirm the current visa fee shortly before departure, as it is set locally and can change without wide notice
  • Since there is no Comorian embassy in Germany, any pre-arranged visa needs must go through Paris or another accredited mission - plan well ahead
  • Onward transport between the islands (ferries/flights) can be limited, so confirm your full itinerary before booking international flights
  • Extensions beyond 45 days should be requested at the immigration office in Moroni before the visa expires
