Guide last updated September 23, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for the duration of the stay
  • No visa required for stays up to 90 days for tourism
  • Return or onward ticket required
  • Proof of sufficient funds may be requested
  • No photo or biometrics required for entry
  • Travel health insurance strongly recommended given the limited healthcare facilities across the FSM's islands

Visa types

  • No tourist visa needed for stays up to 90 days
  • Entry permits for longer stays or employment are issued by the relevant FSM national or state (Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei, Yap) immigration authorities

Entry conditions

  • French passport holders enter visa-free for up to 90 days for tourism or business
  • Must show an onward or return ticket and evidence of funds if asked
  • No work is allowed under visa-free entry
  • Extensions are possible via the relevant FSM state immigration office, granted at discretion, typically for a further 30-90 days

Fees & processing time

  • No fee for the initial 90-day visa-free entry
  • Extension fee is approximately USD 50, depending on the state
  • Extensions are processed within a few business days at the local immigration office

Tips for France travelers

  • Flights are limited - the United Airlines Island Hopper route (via Guam and Honolulu) is the main access point, so book well ahead
  • Confirm which of the four FSM states you are travelling to, since immigration is partly state-administered
  • There is no French embassy in the FSM; the nearest coverage is via the French Embassy in Fiji or Papua New Guinea
  • Carry US dollars in cash, as card facilities are limited outside Pohnpei's main town
