What you need

  • No visa photo or application form needed in advance
  • Biometrics: a photo and sometimes fingerprints captured at immigration on arrival
  • Travel health insurance recommended but not mandatory

Visa types

  • Visa-free Tourist entry: stamped on arrival, valid up to 90 days, renewable for longer visits in some cases via separate long-stay permits
  • Premium Visa: for remote workers or long-stay visitors employed elsewhere, valid up to 1 year, applied for online in advance
  • Business visa: short commercial visits are generally covered under the same visa-free 90-day entry as tourism

Entry conditions

  • French citizens do not need a visa for tourism or short business visits of up to 90 days
  • No local paid employment permitted under the standard tourist entry
  • Submit the Travel and Health Declaration Form online before departure and keep the QR code confirmation for arrival
  • Extensions beyond 90 days can be requested at the Passport and Immigration Office in Port Louis before the initial period expires

Fees & processing time

  • Visa-free entry stamp: free of charge
  • Online Travel and Health Declaration: free, completed in a few minutes
  • Extension of stay: a modest administrative fee, generally under MUR 2,000 (approximately USD 45)
  • Border processing typically takes a few minutes per traveler at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport
  • Extension requests are usually processed within a few working days

Tips for France travelers

  • Complete the online Travel and Health Declaration at least 24-48 hours before departure to avoid check-in delays
  • If considering a longer stay for remote work, look into the Premium Visa before travel rather than relying on in-country extensions
  • Keep your accommodation confirmation accessible, as it may be requested at immigration
  • Mauritius has strong ties with France, which generally makes formalities smooth for French travelers
  • Check France Diplomatie's advisory for cyclone season (roughly November to April), which can affect travel plans
