Visa Free

Guide last updated September 23, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry, with at least 1 blank page.
  • Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC), completed online at windowmalaysia.my/evisa within 3 days before arrival (mandatory even though no visa is required)
  • Proof of onward/return ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking) may be requested
  • No photo required for entry
  • Biometrics: fingerprints and facial photo are collected at Malaysian immigration on arrival
  • Travel health insurance: not mandatory but recommended

Visa types

  • Not applicable in the usual sense - French citizens receive visa-free entry for tourism, valid for a single stay of up to 90 days, subject to completing the MDAC. Business visits of a short duration (meetings, conferences) are also covered under the same visa-free allowance; formal employment requires a separate work pass/visa applied for through the Malaysian Immigration Department.

Entry conditions

  • French citizens may stay visa-free for up to 90 days per visit for tourism or short business purposes
  • No employment is permitted under the visa-exempt entry - a work pass is required separately
  • Complete the MDAC online (free) within 3 days before arrival and present the confirmation, alongside your passport, at immigration
  • Extensions beyond 90 days are not standard for tourist entries; a new visa-free period generally begins on a fresh entry, subject to immigration officer discretion

Fees & processing time

  • Visa fee: none for the 90-day visa-exempt entry
  • MDAC registration: free
  • No VFS/BLS service fee
  • Total cost: free
  • Standard processing: MDAC approval is typically near-instant to a few hours after submission; entry itself is immediate at immigration once the MDAC is confirmed

Tips for France travelers

  • Complete the MDAC no earlier than 3 days before arrival, as earlier submissions may not be accepted or linked correctly to your flight
  • Common issue: forgetting the MDAC and being delayed at immigration - it's mandatory even without a visa
  • No embassy or VFS/BLS visit is needed for standard tourism
  • Malaysia is a popular add-on to Singapore trips; check Singapore's own separate entry rules if traveling onward
  • Keep a printed or digital copy of your MDAC confirmation for the immigration check
