Jordan Visa for France Citizens 2026

Visa on Arrival

French citizens can obtain a single-entry visa on arrival at Jordanian entry points for about JOD 40 (roughly USD 56), or get it free by staying 3+ nights and booking a Jordan Pass in advance, which also bundles Petra and other site entries.

Guide last updated September 23, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry
  • No advance application needed for the standard visa on arrival; alternatively pre-register for a free Jordan Pass online at jordanpass.jo before arrival
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking) recommended
  • Return or onward ticket
  • No photo required for the on-arrival visa; a digital photo is needed if applying for the Jordan Pass online
  • Biometrics: fingerprints and photo taken at the border on arrival
  • Travel health insurance: not mandatory but recommended

Visa types

  • Single-entry tourist visa on arrival: valid for a stay of up to 30 days (extendable), fee JOD 40 (approx USD 56), waived if you hold a Jordan Pass and stay 3+ nights in Jordan
  • Jordan Pass: a bundled package covering the entry visa fee plus admission to Petra and 40+ other sites, purchased online in advance, worthwhile for most tourists staying 3 or more nights
  • Business visa: same on-arrival process for short visits; longer business stays need sponsorship from a Jordanian company

Visa on arrival

  • Available at Queen Alia International Airport (Amman), King Hussein International Airport (Aqaba), and most land border crossings, except the King Hussein/Allenby Bridge crossing from Israel/West Bank, which requires a visa obtained in advance
  • Steps: proceed to the visa counter before immigration, present your passport (and Jordan Pass QR code if you have one), pay the fee if applicable, then proceed to passport control for fingerprinting and photo
  • Accepted currency: Jordanian dinar cash preferred; some counters accept USD or card, but cash JOD avoids exchange issues
  • Queue tips: arrival by air is usually fast (10-20 minutes); the Allenby Bridge land crossing does not offer visa on arrival, so plan differently if entering from Israel

Fees & processing time

  • Visa fee: JOD 40 (approx USD 56), waived with a Jordan Pass if staying 3+ nights
  • Jordan Pass cost: from JOD 70 (approx USD 99) depending on the Petra-days option chosen, which already includes the visa fee
  • Total cost estimate: USD 56-100 depending on whether you buy the Pass
  • Processing time: immediate at the border (10-20 minutes)
  • No express option needed since it's issued on the spot

Tips for France travelers

  • Buy the Jordan Pass online before departure if visiting Petra, since it saves money and speeds up the airport visa process
  • Common issues: forgetting to book the Jordan Pass before arrival (it cannot be issued at the border), or entering via the Allenby land crossing expecting a visa on arrival, which is not available there
  • Direct on-arrival processing is simpler than pre-applying through an embassy for short tourist trips
  • Check France Diplomatie advisories for regional border-area guidance
  • 30-day extensions are available at local police stations (Aliens Registration) in Jordan before the initial visa expires
