Guide last updated September 23, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry
  • Completed online ETA-IL application via the official gov.il visa portal
  • A digital passport-style photo may be requested during the online form
  • Confirmed onward or return travel details
  • Proof of accommodation is not usually required for tourism but should be available if asked at the border
  • Biometrics: not collected in advance; a standard biometric photo/fingerprint check may occur at Ben Gurion Airport per normal Israeli border procedure
  • Travel health insurance: not mandatory but recommended

Visa types

  • Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA-IL), Tourist: multiple entry, valid up to 2 years or until passport expiry (whichever comes first), each stay up to 90 days, fee approx USD 27 (ILS 100)
  • Business ETA: the same electronic authorization covers short business trips such as meetings and conferences; a separate work/study visa is required for employment or long-term study, applied for through an Israeli consulate

How to apply online

  • Apply on the official Israeli Population and Immigration Authority ETA portal linked from gov.il, using your passport details and travel information
  • Pay the USD 27 fee online by credit card
  • Processing is usually near-instant to 72 hours; approval arrives by email as a digital authorization linked to your passport number, no physical sticker or stamp needed in advance
  • Carry a printed or digital copy of the approval for check-in and border control

Fees & processing time

  • ETA fee: approx USD 27 (ILS 100)
  • No additional service fee when applying directly through the official portal
  • Total cost estimate: USD 27
  • Standard processing time: usually within a few hours, up to 72 hours during busier periods
  • No express/priority tier is offered — standard processing is already fast

Tips for France travelers

  • Apply at least 72 hours before departure to allow for the rare longer review
  • Common rejection reasons: passport validity under 6 months, previous immigration violations, incomplete or mismatched personal details
  • Apply only via the official gov.il portal — third-party sites charging extra "service fees" are not required
  • Check France Diplomatie's Israel travel advisory before departure given the evolving security situation
  • The ETA covers tourism and business visits only; anyone planning to work, study, or volunteer long-term needs a different visa from an Israeli consulate in France
