Dominica Visa for France Citizens 2026

Visa Free

French citizens can enter Dominica visa-free for up to 180 days per visit for tourism or business — just a valid passport, return ticket and proof of accommodation.

Guide last updated September 22, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for the intended length of stay (Dominica does not enforce a 6-month rule, but airlines often require 6 months of validity before boarding)
  • No visa application form — entry is granted on arrival with an entry stamp
  • Return or onward ticket showing departure within 180 days
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or address of host)
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for the stay may be requested by immigration officers
  • No specific photo requirement for entry (passport photo standards apply only if you later apply for a visa/extension)
  • Biometrics: not collected at the airport for visa-free entry
  • Travel health insurance: not mandatory but strongly recommended, especially coverage for medical evacuation

Visa types

  • No visa is issued for stays up to 180 days — travelers receive a free entry stamp for tourism or business (no paid work)
  • Business Visa: only needed for activities beyond attending meetings/conferences, apply through the Ministry of National Security or nearest Dominica mission
  • Work Permit / Residence Permit: required for anyone taking up employment or staying long-term; applied for separately through the Immigration Division in Roseau
  • Student Permit: required for study exceeding a short course, arranged with the enrolling institution

Entry conditions

  • Immigration grants up to 180 days per stay (subject to officer discretion) on presentation of passport, return ticket and accommodation details
  • Employment of any kind is not permitted on the visa-free entry stamp
  • Officers may ask to see proof of funds (bank statement or cash) and a local contact/address
  • Extensions beyond the initial stamp period are handled by the Immigration Division, Kennedy Avenue, Roseau
  • Overstaying is a legal violation and can result in fines or future entry refusal

Fees & processing time

  • Entry stamp on arrival: free
  • Extension application (if needed): approximately XCD 50–100 (about USD 18–37), payable in cash at the Immigration Division
  • Standard extension processing: 3–5 working days
  • No VFS/BLS or third-party service fees apply — all extension processing is done directly with Dominican immigration

Tips for France travelers

  • Carry a printed or digital copy of your return flight and hotel booking — officers check these more often than for EU destinations
  • Apply for any extension before your current stamp expires; overstays are recorded against your passport
  • Dominica's hurricane season runs June–November; buy travel insurance that covers trip interruption during this period
  • There is no French embassy in Dominica — the nearest French consular coverage is via the Embassy in Saint Lucia or Trinidad and Tobago; register with them for emergencies
  • Direct flights from France are rare — most travelers connect via Antigua, Saint Lucia, Guadeloupe or Martinique
