Guide last updated September 22, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry
  • Cuban tourist card (Tarjeta de Turista), purchased online, through an airline, or via a travel agency before departure
  • Proof of travel health insurance covering the stay in Cuba: mandatory and sometimes checked at check-in or on arrival
  • Proof of onward or return ticket
  • Address of accommodation, requested during the tourist card application or at the border
  • No specific photo required for the tourist card
  • Biometrics: fingerprints and photo may be taken at Cuban immigration on arrival

Visa types

  • Tourist card (Tarjeta de Turista): single entry, valid for a 30-day stay, extendable once for another 30 days inside Cuba, fee approximately EUR 25-30
  • Business or official visas: applied for through the Cuban embassy in Paris (or via minrex.gob.cu resources) rather than the standard tourist card, with case-by-case fees and processing
  • Journalist or student visas: separate categories requiring direct embassy application and additional documentation

How to apply online

  • The Cuban tourist card can be purchased online through authorized platforms, through the airline operating the flight to Cuba, or via a travel agency; direct government portals and embassy resources (such as those linked from minrex.gob.cu) provide guidance on current providers. After completing personal and travel details and paying online, the tourist card is issued electronically or by post/courier depending on the provider, and must be presented alongside the passport at check-in and on arrival. Processing is typically fast, often same-day to a few days, though ordering at least 2 weeks ahead by courier is safer if a physical card is required.

Fees & processing time

  • Tourist card fee: approximately EUR 25-30 (around USD 27-33), though prices vary by provider and delivery method
  • Courier delivery fee, if a physical card is mailed: an additional EUR 5-15
  • Total cost estimate: EUR 30-45 depending on provider and delivery speed
  • Standard processing time: same-day to a few business days for electronic issuance; up to 1-2 weeks if a physical card is mailed
  • Express/priority options are offered by some private providers for an extra fee

Tips for France travelers

  • Buy the tourist card from a reputable, well-known provider or directly through the airline to avoid delays or invalid cards
  • Travel health insurance is checked more rigorously than in many destinations, so carry proof (policy document or certificate) at check-in
  • A common issue is leaving the tourist card purchase too late if a physical card by post is chosen; electronic options are faster and generally preferable
  • The 30-day extension can be requested at immigration offices inside Cuba (Inmigración y Extranjería) before the initial period expires
  • Keep the tourist card together with the passport throughout the trip, as it must be surrendered on departure
