Visa Free

French citizens can enter Belize visa-free for up to 30 days, with extensions available monthly at the Immigration Department up to a maximum of six months.

Guide last updated October 25, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least the duration of your intended stay
  • No visa application form required for entry
  • Proof of onward or return ticket
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host address)
  • Evidence of sufficient funds, generally around USD 50-75 per day as a guideline
  • No photo or biometrics required on entry
  • Travel health insurance is recommended given the cost of private medical care in Belize

Visa types

  • Visa-free tourist entry: granted at the border, initial stamp typically for 30 days, no fee
  • Qualified Retired Persons (QRP) program: separate long-term residency program for retirees, with its own application and minimum income requirements, not relevant for short tourist visits

Entry conditions

  • Immigration officers grant an initial stay of up to 30 days on arrival
  • Extensions can be obtained monthly at the Immigration Department in Belize City or regional offices, up to a cumulative maximum of six months per year
  • Working for a Belizean employer without a work permit is not permitted on the visa-free tourist stamp
  • Carry your onward ticket, accommodation details and some evidence of funds in case immigration asks
  • A departure/exit fee is charged when leaving the country by air, separate from any visa or extension fee

Fees & processing time

  • No fee for the initial 30-day visa-free entry
  • Monthly extension fee: approximately BZD 50 (about USD 25) per month, payable at the Immigration Department
  • No VFS/BLS service fee, since this is a direct government process
  • Processing at the border is immediate; extensions are typically processed the same day at the Immigration office
  • No express service exists or is needed, given same-day processing

Tips for France travelers

  • Plan extension visits to the Immigration Department before each 30-day stamp expires if you intend to stay longer
  • Common issue for French travelers: underestimating the departure tax/exit fee charged at the airport, which is separate from any visa cost
  • Keep your immigration stamps and receipts for each extension, as you may be asked to show the full paper trail when leaving
  • Travel insurance is worth arranging in advance, since private healthcare costs in Belize can be high
  • If you plan to retire or stay long-term, look into the Qualified Retired Persons program rather than repeated short extensions
