Guide last updated October 18, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date.
  • Confirmed return or onward flight ticket
  • Proof of accommodation for the stay
  • Evidence of sufficient funds
  • One passport-size photo, 2x2 inches, white background, for the arrival form
  • Biometrics: fingerprints and photo taken at the immigration counter on arrival
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate is recommended; travel health insurance is advisable

Visa types

  • Short-stay visa on arrival: single entry, issued at Blaise Diagne International Airport, valid for up to 90 days, fee approximately XOF 50,000 (about USD 85)
  • Multiple-entry visa: available for frequent travelers through the Senegal e-visa portal (visasenegal.sn) in advance, valid up to 1 year
  • Business visa: similar to tourist, requires an invitation letter, same fee range

Visa on arrival

  • Issued at the immigration desk at Blaise Diagne International Airport in Dakar
  • Steps: present passport, return ticket and accommodation proof, complete the arrival form, pay the fee
  • Fee: approximately XOF 50,000 (USD 85), payable in cash (CFA francs or USD) or sometimes by card
  • Processing time: typically 15-30 minutes depending on counter queues
  • Queue tips: arrive with exact change in CFA francs to avoid delays from currency conversion at the counter

Fees & processing time

  • Visa on arrival fee: approximately XOF 50,000 (USD 85)
  • No separate VFS/BLS fee for the airport visa on arrival
  • Online e-visa alternative fee: similar range, approximately USD 80-90, processed in 48-72 hours before travel
  • Total cost estimate: USD 85-100
  • No formal express counter; general processing is already same-day at the airport

Tips for Egypt travelers

  • Pre-apply via the online e-visa portal if you prefer to avoid airport queues, though the on-arrival option is reliable
  • Carry CFA francs or USD cash since card facilities at the airport counter can be unreliable
  • Common issues: missing proof of accommodation causes extra questioning
  • Keep your yellow fever certificate accessible even though it is not strictly mandatory from Egypt, as officers sometimes ask
  • Extensions beyond 90 days require a visit to the Senegalese immigration office (Direction de la Police des Etrangers) in Dakar before expiry
