Guide last updated October 18, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date.
  • No visa or pre-approval needed for stays up to 30 days
  • Return or onward ticket recommended but rarely checked
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter) advisable
  • No specific photo requirement since no visa application is filed
  • No biometrics required at entry; fingerprints and a photo are taken on arrival at the airport as standard border procedure
  • Travel health insurance is recommended, not mandatory
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate is not required from Egypt but carry one if you have transited a yellow-fever endemic country

Visa types

  • Visa-free entry: automatic for Egyptian passport holders, 30 days, single or multiple entry within that window, no fee
  • East Africa Tourist Visa: optional, USD 100, covers Rwanda, Kenya and Uganda, 90 days, multiple entry, useful if you plan a regional trip
  • Ordinary visa extension: available after arrival if you need to stay past 30 days

Entry conditions

  • 30 days permitted per visit without any visa or ETA
  • Not authorized to take up paid employment on this entry status
  • At the border, show your passport, return ticket if asked, and accommodation details
  • Extensions of up to 60 additional days can be requested at the Rwanda Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration in Kigali before the initial 30 days expire
  • Multiple visa-free entries are permitted; there is no minimum gap between visits

Fees & processing time

  • Visa-free entry: no fee, no processing time, approval is immediate at the border
  • East Africa Tourist Visa (optional, if applying online): USD 100, processed in 2-3 business days via the Irembo immigration portal
  • Extension fee inside Rwanda: approximately USD 50 for a further 30-60 days, processed in 1-3 business days
  • No VFS or BLS service fees apply since this is a visa-free route

Tips for Egypt travelers

  • No advance application needed; just book your flight and go
  • Keep a printed or digital copy of your return ticket and hotel booking in case immigration officers ask
  • Carry proof of sufficient funds (bank statement or cash) as officers occasionally spot-check this
  • If continuing to Kenya or Uganda, apply for the East Africa Tourist Visa before departure rather than at the border
  • Register with the Egyptian embassy in Kigali if staying long-term, for consular support
