What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry, with at least 1 blank page
  • Completed visa-on-arrival form, available at the port of entry or in advance via evisa.gov.mz
  • One recent passport-style photo
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking) and return/onward flight ticket
  • Proof of sufficient funds for the stay
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate if arriving from or transiting a country with risk of yellow fever
  • Visa fee payable in cash (USD) at the port, or by card if applying online in advance
  • No biometrics required for the visa-on-arrival process

Visa types

  • Single-entry tourist visa on arrival - valid 30 days, fee around USD 50
  • Multiple-entry visa - valid up to 90 days with multiple entries, fee around USD 100-150
  • Business visa - requires an invitation letter, available on arrival or via the online portal
  • Transit visa - for stays of up to 48 hours, fee around USD 25

  • On arrival, collect and complete the visa application form at the immigration desk

  • Processing at the counter typically takes 20-40 minutes depending on traffic

  • Multiple-entry visa: approximately USD 100-150
  • Online pre-approval through evisa.gov.mz: similar fee plus a small online service charge (around USD 5-10)
  • No separate processing time if paying on arrival - issued same day at the airport counter
  • Online pre-approval processing: 2-5 business days before travel

Tips for Egypt travelers

  • Pre-applying online is strongly recommended to avoid long queues at Maputo airport, especially on evening flights
  • Carry exact USD cash, as change in other currencies is often unavailable at the border counter
  • Common rejection reasons: no onward ticket, no yellow fever certificate when arriving via an at-risk country, or insufficient funds
  • Extensions are possible at the Mozambican Immigration Service office in Maputo before the visa expires
  • There is no Mozambican embassy in Cairo, so the airport visa-on-arrival or the online portal are the main routes for Egyptian travelers
