Kenya Visa for Egypt Citizens 2026

Visa Free

Egyptian citizens do not need a traditional visa for Kenya but must obtain a mandatory Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) via the eCitizen portal before travel, allowing stays of up to 60 days.

Guide last updated October 17, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond arrival date
  • Completed online eTA application (replaces the old visa, mandatory for all visitors since 2024)
  • Digital passport-style photo and passport bio-data page scan for the eTA
  • Return or onward flight ticket
  • Proof of accommodation in Kenya
  • No in-person biometrics required for the eTA itself, though fingerprints/photo may be captured at the airport
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate if arriving from or transiting a yellow-fever-risk country (Egypt itself is not on that list, so generally not required for direct flights)

Visa types

  • Single-entry eTA for tourism/business/transit: covers stays up to 60 days (previously 90 days visa, now set by the eTA system)
  • East Africa Tourist Visa: a separate multi-entry option covering Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda if visiting more than one of these countries
  • Work/residence permits are handled separately through Kenya's Department of Immigration Services and are not covered by the eTA

Entry conditions

  • Travel is visa-free in the traditional sense, but the eTA must be approved before boarding your flight
  • Stay is capped at 60 days per the current entry category; no work is permitted under the tourist/business eTA
  • At arrival, present the eTA approval (electronically linked to your passport), passport, and onward ticket
  • Extensions beyond 60 days can be requested at the Department of Immigration Services in Nairobi before the authorized stay expires

Fees & processing time

  • eTA fee: USD 34 (paid online via the eCitizen portal, non-refundable if rejected)
  • No separate visa fee since the eTA has replaced the former visa-on-arrival system
  • Processing time: usually within 3 business days, though it can be instant for straightforward applications
  • Extension fee at the Immigration office is roughly USD 50-80 depending on the extension period

Tips for Egypt travelers

  • Apply for the eTA at least a few days before departure since processing can occasionally take longer than advertised
  • Use only the official eCitizen portal (ecitizen.go.ke) to avoid third-party sites charging inflated fees
  • Keep a digital and printed copy of the eTA approval for airline check-in and border control
  • Confirm current bilateral travel notes with the Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs (mfa.go.ke) before booking, as East Africa entry rules have changed frequently in recent years
  • If connecting through a yellow-fever-endemic country en route, carry your vaccination certificate to avoid delays
