  • Completed France-Visas online application form, printed and signed.
  • Travel health insurance covering at least €30,000, valid for the whole Schengen area and trip duration.
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel bookings or a signed 'attestation d'accueil' if staying with a host).
  • Confirmed round-trip flight reservation.
  • Bank statements for the last 3 months plus a letter from your employer or, if self-employed, commercial registration documents.
  • One recent passport-size photo, 35mm x 45mm, white background.
  • Biometrics (10-digit fingerprints and photo) are mandatory and taken in person at TLScontact Cairo.

Visa types

  • Short-stay Schengen Visa (Type C): tourism, business, or family visits, single or multiple entry, up to 90 days in any 180-day period, fee €80.
  • Long-stay Visa (Type D): for study, work, or family reunification over 90 days, requires a separate residence permit process (VLS-TS) after arrival.
  • Transit Visa: for airport transit only, rarely required for Egyptian passengers connecting through French airports without leaving the transit zone.

How to apply

  • Create your application and fill in the questionnaire on the France-Visas website to generate your personalised document checklist and application form.
  • Book an appointment at TLScontact Cairo (France's official visa application partner in Egypt).
  • Attend in person with your passport, printed form, photo, insurance, and financial/accommodation documents; give fingerprints and photo for biometrics.
  • Pay the €80 visa fee plus the TLScontact service fee (approx. 500-700 EGP) at the centre.
  • Track status online via your France-Visas account; standard decision time is about 15 calendar days, up to 30-60 days in complex cases.
  • Collect your passport at TLScontact or choose the courier delivery option if offered.

Fees & processing time

  • Schengen visa fee: €80 for adults, €40 for children 6-12, free under 6.
  • TLScontact service fee in Cairo: approx. 500-700 EGP in addition to the visa fee.
  • Total estimated cost: roughly €90-100 equivalent.
  • Standard processing time: 15 calendar days for a complete file.
  • No guaranteed express option; apply 3-4 weeks ahead of travel and up to 6 months in advance for planned trips.

Tips for Egypt travelers

  • Complete the France-Visas online questionnaire carefully first - it generates the exact document list for your profile and saves a wasted trip to TLScontact.
  • Common rejection reasons: insurance that doesn't cover the full trip dates, weak proof of ties to Egypt (job, property), and inconsistent travel dates across documents.
  • Book your TLScontact appointment as early as possible, especially around summer and French school holidays when slots are scarce.
  • If France is not your main destination within the Schengen area, apply instead at the embassy of the country where you'll spend the most nights.
  • Keep the TLScontact receipt and tracking number safe to check your application status online.
