  • 2 recent biometric photos (35x45mm, white background)
  • Travel medical insurance with minimum EUR 30,000 coverage valid across the Schengen area
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel bookings or invitation letter)
  • Round-trip flight reservation
  • Bank statements for the last 3-6 months and proof of employment/income
  • Biometrics (fingerprints and digital photo) required at VFS Global Cairo

Visa types

  • Short-stay Schengen Type C visa: single, double, or multiple entry, valid up to 90 days within a 180-day period
  • Tourist visa: for holiday travel
  • Business visa: requires an invitation letter from a Bulgarian company
  • Visiting family/friends visa: requires a formal invitation plus the host's ID copy

How to apply

  • Submit the application through VFS Global's Bulgaria visa application centre in Cairo (Bulgaria outsources visa intake there)
  • Book an appointment online, complete the form, and gather all supporting documents before attending
  • Attend in person to provide biometrics and submit documents
  • Track the application status online using the VFS reference number
  • Collect the passport with the visa decision at the centre or via courier if selected

Fees & processing time

  • Schengen visa fee: EUR 90 for adults, EUR 45 for children aged 6-11, free under 6
  • VFS Global service fee: approximately EUR 25-30 on top of the visa fee
  • Standard processing time: 15 calendar days, extendable to 30-45 days in complex cases
  • No official express/priority service for Bulgaria at the Cairo VFS centre

Tips for Egypt travelers

  • Apply at least 4-6 weeks before travel, especially in peak summer and holiday seasons
  • Common rejection reasons: weak proof of ties to Egypt, insufficient funds, inconsistent travel itinerary
  • Book refundable flights and hotels until the visa is approved
  • Since Bulgaria is now full Schengen, the same visa also permits travel across all Schengen member states
