Guide last updated October 17, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the planned departure, with 2 blank pages
  • Completed and signed Schengen visa application form
  • 2 recent passport photos, 35x45mm, white background
  • Travel/health insurance covering at least EUR 30,000 across the Schengen area
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter from a host in Belgium)
  • Round-trip flight reservation
  • Bank statements for the last 3 months and an employment or business letter
  • Biometrics (fingerprints and photo) collected in person at the visa application centre

Visa types

  • Schengen Type C (short-stay): tourism, business or family visits, up to 90 days within 180 days, single or multiple entry
  • Schengen Type D (national visa): for stays over 90 days, e.g. university study or long-term employment in Belgium
  • Single Permit: Belgium's combined work-and-residence permit for employment longer than 90 days, applied for by the employer

How to apply

  • Book an appointment at the Belgium Visa Application Centre (VFS Global) in Cairo
  • Complete the online form, print and sign it
  • Submit documents and give biometrics in person
  • Pay the visa fee and the VFS service fee at submission
  • Track the application online and collect the passport, or opt for courier return

Fees & processing time

  • Visa fee: EUR 90 for adults, EUR 45 for children aged 6-11, free under 6
  • VFS service fee: approximately EUR 25-30 on top of the consular fee
  • Standard processing time: around 15 calendar days
  • Can extend up to 30-45 days during peak travel season
  • No formal express service; apply early

Tips for Egypt travelers

  • Apply 3-4 weeks before travel to allow for processing delays during busy periods
  • Common rejection reasons for Egyptian applicants include weak proof of funds, unclear travel purpose, or a poorly supported invitation letter
  • Submit through VFS Global, not the embassy directly, since Belgium outsources visa collection in Egypt
  • Maintain a steady bank balance over several months rather than a last-minute deposit
  • Stay extensions inside Belgium must be requested from the local commune/municipality before the visa expires
