e-Visa / eTA

Guide last updated October 16, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for the entire intended stay in Australia
  • ImmiAccount online application with a scanned passport bio page
  • Digital passport-style photo uploaded during the application
  • Proof of funds to cover the stay (bank statements)
  • Evidence of ties to Egypt, such as an employment letter, property, or family, to show intent to return
  • Round-trip flight itinerary (not mandatory at application but good to have ready)
  • Health examinations only if requested by the Department of Home Affairs
  • No biometrics required for most Visitor visa applicants from Egypt, though some may be asked to provide them

Visa types

  • Visitor visa (subclass 600), Tourist stream - single or multiple entry, validity typically 3 or 12 months, max stay 3 months per visit, fee from AUD 195
  • Visitor visa (subclass 600), Business stream - for short business trips, similar structure and fee
  • Transit visa (subclass 771) - for short layovers not leaving the airport, usually free

How to apply online

  • Create an ImmiAccount on the Department of Home Affairs website (immi.homeaffairs.gov.au)
  • Complete the online Visitor visa (subclass 600) application form
  • Upload the passport scan, photo, financial evidence, and supporting documents
  • Pay the visa fee (from AUD 195) online by card
  • Processing typically takes 2-4 weeks, though it can extend to several months during peak periods
  • Approval is sent electronically; there is no physical visa label since Australian visas are linked electronically to the passport

Fees & processing time

  • Visa fee: from AUD 195 (~USD 130) for the Tourist stream base fee
  • No separate VFS/BLS service fee since applications are submitted directly via ImmiAccount
  • Total cost estimate: AUD 195-350 depending on stream and add-ons
  • Standard processing: 2-4 weeks for the majority of applications, extending to 2-3 months for the remainder
  • Express/priority option: not formally offered for subclass 600; applying early is the only way to manage timing

Tips for Egypt travelers

  • Apply at least 2-3 months before the planned travel date given variable processing times
  • Common rejection reasons: insufficient evidence of funds, weak ties to Egypt suggesting migration intent, incomplete documentation
  • Provide a clear travel itinerary and strong supporting documents (employment letter, bank statements) to strengthen the application
  • No current bilateral travel restrictions between Egypt and Australia
  • Extensions require lodging a new Visitor visa application before the current visa expires; onshore extensions are possible but must be filed in time
