Taiwan Visa for Canada Citizens 2026

Visa Free

Canadian citizens can enter Taiwan visa-free for up to 90 days for tourism or business; no visa application needed, just a valid passport and onward ticket.

Guide last updated September 30, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for the full length of your stay (Taiwan does not require extra validity beyond your departure date).
  • No visa or application form needed for stays up to 90 days.
  • Proof of onward or return travel (confirmed ticket out of Taiwan).
  • Sufficient funds for your stay (immigration officers may ask to see this).
  • No biometrics collection for visa-exempt entry.
  • Travel health insurance is recommended but not mandatory.

Visa types

  • Visa-exempt entry (used by most Canadian tourists/business visitors): 90 days, single entry per trip, no fee.
  • Visitor Visa (if you need longer than 90 days or multiple entries in a short span): issued by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Canada, validity up to 3 months, fee CAD 50-80.
  • Resident Visa (work, study, marriage): requires sponsorship documents and is applied for separately.

Entry conditions

  • Canadians may stay up to 90 days visa-free per entry for tourism, business meetings, or family visits.
  • Working is not permitted on the visa-exempt entry.
  • You must show your passport and, if asked, proof of onward travel and funds at the immigration counter.
  • Extensions beyond 90 days are generally not granted for visa-exempt visitors; you must leave and may re-enter after a period.

Fees & processing time

  • Visa-exempt entry: no fee, no processing time - you are stamped in on arrival.
  • Visitor Visa (if required): NTD 1,600 (about CAD 70) for single entry, NTD 2,400 (about CAD 105) for multiple entry.
  • Standard visa processing at TECO Toronto or Vancouver: 4 working days; express service (add ~50% fee): 2-3 working days.
  • No VFS/BLS intermediary is used; applications go directly to TECO.

Tips for Canada travelers

  • Because entry is visa-free, no advance application is needed - just book your flight and go.
  • Keep your return or onward ticket confirmation handy; officers occasionally ask for it at the counter.
  • If your passport is close to needing renewal, do it before you travel since some airlines still enforce old 6-month rules even though Taiwan itself doesn't require it.
  • If you plan to work or study, apply for the correct visa through TECO well before travel - visa-exempt entry cannot be converted to a work/resident status locally.
  • Register your trip with Global Affairs Canada for updates on regional advisories.
