Congo Visa for Canada Citizens 2026

Visa Required

Canadian citizens need a visa to enter the Republic of the Congo (Congo-Brazzaville) — apply through the Congolese Embassy (Washington, D.C. serves Canada) with a yellow fever certificate; fee around USD 100-150, processing 5-10 business days.

Guide last updated September 29, 2026. Always verify with official sources before travel.

What you need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date, with at least 2 blank visa pages
  • Completed Republic of Congo visa application form (signed)
  • Two recent passport-size photos (35mm x 45mm, white background, taken within the last 6 months)
  • Proof of accommodation: hotel booking confirmation or a signed invitation letter from a host in Congo
  • Round-trip or onward flight ticket
  • Proof of sufficient funds (bank statement showing at least CAD 2,000 or equivalent)
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate — mandatory for entry, checked on arrival at Maya-Maya Airport
  • Travel health insurance covering the full stay (strongly recommended, sometimes requested by the embassy)
  • For business visas: an invitation letter from the host company in Congo

Visa types

  • Tourist visa: single entry, valid for use within 90 days of issue, permits a stay of up to 30 days; fee approximately USD 100
  • Business visa: single or multiple entry, requires a company invitation letter, permits a stay of up to 90 days; fee approximately USD 150-200
  • Transit visa: for onward travel through Congo, valid 72 hours; fee approximately USD 50

How to apply

  • Canada has no resident Congolese embassy or consulate, so Canadian applicants submit through the Congo Embassy in Washington, D.C. (embassyofcongobrazzaville.org) by mail/courier, or through a visa agency that couriers documents on your behalf
  • Steps: download and complete the application form from the embassy website, gather supporting documents, courier your passport and documents to the embassy, pay the visa fee by money order or as instructed, the embassy affixes a visa sticker and couriers the passport back
  • Standard processing takes 5-10 business days from receipt of a complete application
  • Expedited processing (2-3 business days) is available at some Congolese missions for an additional fee
  • Some travelers use a visa service agency in Canada to handle the Washington courier trip

Fees & processing time

  • Tourist visa: approximately USD 100 (single entry)
  • Business visa: approximately USD 150-200
  • Transit visa: approximately USD 50
  • Courier/agency service fees (if used): CAD 50-150 round trip, not included in the visa fee
  • Standard processing: 5-10 business days after the embassy receives your complete application
  • Express processing: 2-3 business days for an added fee where offered
  • Total cost for most Canadian tourist applicants: roughly USD 150-250 once courier costs are included

Tips for Canada travelers

  • Start the process at least 4-6 weeks before travel — postal/courier time to Washington, D.C. adds several days on each leg
  • Carry your yellow fever certificate at all times; it is checked at Maya-Maya International Airport and inland border points, and travelers without it can be denied entry or vaccinated on the spot
  • A clear invitation letter (business or personal) significantly speeds up approval and reduces requests for extra documents
  • Check Global Affairs Canada's travel advisory for the Republic of the Congo before booking, as security conditions vary by region
  • Keep photocopies of your passport bio page and visa separate from the originals in case of loss
  • If your visa is refused, common reasons are incomplete financial proof or a missing/invalid yellow fever certificate — double-check both before submitting
